How to Plan Your Next Trip

Planning a trip can be stressful if you’re not sure where to start. How do you get there? Where do you go? How to do travel around? Do I need a visa? How do I find the best deals?

There are, of course, different types of planners and travellers. There are those who need every minute of every day to be planned out, and others who improvise the entire trip. I’m usually right in the middle of the two. I like to have a solid idea of where and when I’ll be somewhere, but leave the majority of the planning and sightseeing for the last minute.

Step 1Decide the type of vacation you want to take. Are you looking for a beach getaway, an outdoors adventure or a city break?

Step 1.5 Budget. Everyone has a budget… Whether you’re travelling frugally or luxuriously, that will also help in your decision-making. Keep money in mind as you figure out the type of vacation you want to take.

Step 2: Duration. Before you decide where, it’s important to figure out how long you will go, especially if you’re not 100% sure on where you want to go yet. If you only have a week of vacation, flying to the other end of the planet may not be very efficient.

Step 3: Destination. Now is when you decide where. Within the timeframe that you’ve given yourself, does this destination work? Will you have enough time to visit?

Step 4: How to get there. Will you fly? Take a train? Take a bus? Drive?

Step 5: Accomodation. All-inclusive resort? Hotel? Hostel? Couchsurfing? Camping?

Step 6: Sightseeing and tours. Are you planning on doing a tour? Research the area and what are the “best of” that you can’t miss and make a list of possibilities.

Step 7: Pack and go. Pack your bags accordingly and off you go!

See? It’s not too hard. Just make sure to read reviews on accomodation and you can even rely on TripAdvisor for ideas on what to do in that part of the world.

It’s honestly just a matter of taking the time to write down all your options and finding out which one works the best for you. Happy planning!
